New stats show a few South Africans trying to emigrate to liberal New Zealand as refugees, and failing! However many succeed as students & residents

New statistics published by New Zealand Immigration shows how South Africans have been trying to emigrate to the country using refugee status, and failing.

New Zealand resettles 1,000 refugees each year through its Refugee Quota Programme. Since World War II the country has resettled over 35,000 refugees, with the New Zealand government establishing an formal annual quota for the resettlement of refugees in 1987.

In 2019, nine South Africans applied to be part of the programme – bringing the total to 83 who have tried this route since 2010.

All of these applications have failed.

Refugees considered for resettlement under the programme must be recognised as mandated refugees and referred to New Zealand by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), according to prescribed resettlement guidelines.

Die vraag van buitelandse kopers – ingesluit Suid-Afrikaners wat oorsee woon – na plaaslike eiendom het effens toegeneem in die eerste helfte van die jaar, maar dit is nie naastenby by die hoogtepunt van 2016 nie.

Siphamandla Mkhwanazi en Zharina Francis, ontleders van FNB, sê in ’n verslag oor ’n peiling onder eiendomsagente buitelanders was in die tweede kwartaal vir 3,7% van alle eiendomsaankope in Suid-Afrika verantwoordelik. Dit is ’n effense herstel van die laagtepunt in die vierde kwartaal van 2018 toe dit op 2,9% was.

“Nieteenstaande is dit steeds onder die piek van 5,7% in die derde kwartaal van 2016 en onder die langtermyngemiddelde van 4,4%,” sê hulle.

Hulle meen die verbetering in die eerste helfte van vanjaar is deels omdat buitelanders gebruik gemaak het van die geleentheid om eiendom te koop terwyl Suid-Afrikaanse kopers gewag het om tot ná die verkiesing.

Dit het meegebring dat mense wat in plekke soos Dubai gewerk het, géén inkomstebelasting op hul buitelandse inkomste betaal het nie.

Vanaf Maart sal hulle wel belasting moet bet
