Commonwealth Games 2018:- Sevens shocker as TeamSA fail to get a medal

Team South Africa ended the 2018 Commonwealth Games the opposite way that it started – with a bit of a let down. The South African Sevens sides failed to win a single medal as the Gold Coast event wrapped up.

They ended Sunday’s final day empty-handed when both the men’s and women’s rugby sevens sides failed to add to the tally.

To be honest, the women’s side were never expected to medal as new coach Paul Delport is still finding his feet and needs to gel with the squad – but the men were a different story.

Many thought the fact that they ‘only’ won bronze at the Rio Olympics two years ago could be interpreted as a failure but here on the Gold Coast, they were defending the title they won in Glasgow four years ago.

Must be nice to be Rassie Erasmus. While strict rules were in place for his predecessor when it came to picking overseas players, Erasmus will be allowed to do so.

According to a report in this weekend’s City Press, he has been given approval to “pick any player who might qualify for the Bok team, provided he gives valid reasons for that player’s selection”.

Did you know that South Africans can vote abroad in the 2019 elections? Lekker right? There are hundreds of thousands of us South Africans living abroad and our country needs every vote to ensure that our Democracy is maintained.

South Africa has a proportional representation system. That basically means that the more votes a party gets, the more seats they will get in Parliament. The more diverse the representation in Parliament, the healthier our Democracy will be.

More importantly, voting is your opportunity to have your say as to who governs South Africa and it reminds them that they are ultimately accountable to the people of South Africa.

Groep Britse toeriste by Ermelo,Mpumalanga beroof
