Who are the highest paid South African cricketers?

The big-spending franchises in the IPL (Indian Premier League) have invested in some South African talent for this year’s competition.

The conclusion of the fourth Test between South Africa and Australia not only signalled the end of Morne Morkel’s international career, it also meant the end of the international season for both sides as attentions will soon be diverted to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As loyalty to a franchise has been known to depend largely on its personnel in this particular competition, avid South African cricket fans will keep a keen eye on their compatriots plying their trade in one of world sport’s most popular annual tournaments.

With Heinrich Klaasen called up to replace the disgraced former Australian skipper, Steve Smith at the Rajasthan Royals, the number of South Africans to look out for now sits at nine.

These are five South African in line for a massive payday in this year’s edition of the IPL.

Twitter tributes for Morkel as he bows out of international cricket: #MyMorneMoments

Morne Morkel’s international career came to an end on Tuesday, but not before this special tribute.

Morne Morkel bowed out of international cricket in fine style as South Africa registered a historic 3-1 series victory against Australia by winning the fourth and final Test by a mammoth 492 runs, the highest victory run margin in history.

The 33-year-old was in the thick of the action as he bowled what would become the final delivery of the series, where Aiden Markram effected the run out which would bring the contest, as well as a 12-year Test career, to a close.

Though his achievements in the side have been largely understated when compared to some of his relatively ‘superstar’ teammates, they haven’t gone unnoticed by the public, as well as former teammates, who paid a tribute by remembering some of his memorable moments through the hashtag, #MyMorneMoments on Twitter.

From his rather comical ‘tool shed’ moment, to his flying catch in the recent

Gary Kirsten and Neil McKenzie are being eyed as consultants for Bangladesh

Gary Kirsten could soon be working as a team consultant for the Bangladesh cricket team. At this stage, talks are ongoing.

Bangladesh cricket authorities said Tuesday they were in talks with former South African batsman Gary Kirsten to hire him as a team consultant for an extended period.

Bangladesh have been looking for a head coach for the national cricket team since October, after former Sri Lankan opener Chandika Hathurusingha stepped down.

But Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) spokesperson Jalal Yunus said they had offered Kirsten, 50, who was India’s coach when they won the 2011 World Cup, a different role unlike that of a head coach.

“He is on our list but he will come only as a team consultant. It’s not final, though. Hopefully we will be able to strike a deal after the Indian Premier League,” Yunus said.

Fanie de Villiers, the man who tipped off TV crew about ball tampering

NEW DELHI: Do you know who played a huge role in tipping off the TV crew at Newlands to zero in on suspicious activity during day three of the controversial third Test match between Australian and South Africa?

That would be Fanie de Villiers, the retired South African fast bowler doing commentary during the match for one of the broadcasters. On Monday, during a radio interview, de Villiers revealed how he instructed TV camera operators to keep their lenses trained on the Australians for ball tampering on Saturday, having suspected that they were upto something suspicious.

“I said earlier on, that if they could get reverse swing in the 26th, 27th, 28th over then they are doing something different from what everyone else does,” the 53-year-old told RSN Radio. “We actually said to our cameramen, ‘go out [and] have a look, boys. They’re using something.’ They searched for an hour and a half until they saw something and then they started following Bancroft and they a

Ball tampering: Here are five of the biggest scandals that rocked cricket

The Australian cricket team are caught in the eye of a storm at the moment, following a ball tampering scandal that’s dragged their name through the mud.

Both Cameron Bancroft and Steve Smith fronted up to the media yesterday, as the former was caught rubbing yellow tape on the ball. They’ve certainly had their trial by media, but they aren’t the first players to get caught red (or, yellow) handed.

What is ball tampering?
It is when a team who’s bowling try to alter the shape or condition of a cricket ball to gain an unfair advantage. To make the ball swing, one side has to be kept rough, whilst another remains smooth. You’re allowed to “smoothen” a ball with sweat or saliva, as well as shining it up with clothing or a towel.
