Aalborg is 10 centuries old, and the fourth largest city in Denmark. Once home to Vikings, it’s now a lively modern commercial port with excellent restaurants, a vibrant nightlife and a variety of shopping opportunities. The main city in North Jutland, Aalborg is famous for its heaving nightlife and the nearby Viking burial ground. The waterfront area has recently been redeveloped, and is now a popular centre for design and all sorts of entertainment.
See and do
Explore the city to discover its history, evident in its half-timbered buildings lining the cobbled streets in the Old Town – these buildings have stood here since Renaissance times, including the 16th Century Aalborg Castle, built and lived in by King Christian the Third. It’s famous for its dungeon and underground passages. Aalborg’s well-preserved Old Town centres on the Gothic Cathedral, known as the Budolfi Domkirke, which is also worth exploring.
